ARTIST: Will Tang
ALBUM: Everything Changes
Born to British and Chinese parents in Rochdale, Will Tang had a broad perspective on the world from an early age.

With his dad in an internationally recognised orchestra and a granddad with a good reputation as a church organist, there were plenty of musical influences in his house as well.

These social factors can clearly be heard in his music which explores his roots and also has the humble, down-to-earth sound of a gutsy folk artist.

This is a man with something to say, not solely obsessed with the way in which he's going to say it.

His voice is gravelly enough to make Chris Rea seem like a choirboy, but that somehow adds to the charm of Everything Changes – his sixth studio album that's already out and sees single The Other Side released this month.

Noted for his flirtations with the harmonica, his music has been featured on many movie soundtracks and he's also been performing on the same bill as a range of international stars of late – Simon Le Bon and Deep Purple to name but two. With a subtle mix of the mournful and hopeful, acoustic and the wild jamming, Everything Changes is a good time to pick up on Tang's career.

ARTIST: Geoff Soule
ALBUM: A Dialogue Between Feminine Wisdom and Masculine Uncertainty

I think we'll shorten the title of this self-indulgent album to A Dialogue… for fear of running out of newspaper space or felling a forest of trees to house the lengthy name Mr Soule has attributed to his work.

A Dialogue (out on Monday) starts with an improvised instrumental (nothing special) and then a song called A Dirge, which is exactly that.

This would be a perfect soundtrack to a drug-induced 70s movie and has a hazy feel à la early Simon and Garfunkel. But Soule's experimental musings failed to get me excited.
