THEY may be on the verge of making more 'comebacks' than Frank Sinatra but rock fans will be thrilled to know top Manx AC/DC tribute band DC/AC are returning to the Villa Marina for the TT.
The band, who last time they played — in 2008 — promoted that show as their last, are heading back with a new vocalist in tow.
Adrian 'Ade' Bruce, of fellow AC/DC tribute band A Little Bitta' Rosie, will be replacing Baz Walton as the singer.
Alongside Ade will be Paul 'Angus' Daugherty (guitars), Kevin Cleator (guitars), Dick Raine (bass) and John Cleator (drums/percussion).
The gig — which is being promoted under the title DC/AC MMX — For Those About to Race (We Salute You) — will effectively kick-start the TT as it takes place on the first night of TT practice, Saturday, May 29.
It is being presented by Jonno Gollow of JonnoPromotions.
The 2008 show, which was to raise funds for the Joey Dunlop Foundation, completely sold out the Villa.
I wrote in What Where When at the time: 'A packed Royal Hall loved every minute of the spectacular performance by the band who emulate a classic line up of AC/DC.
'They wowed the crowds with classics such as Whole Lotta Rosie, Highway to Hell and Let There Be Rock.
'The gig, which also marked Paul's 40th birthday, had a big-event feel to it and there was a very special atmosphere all night.
'DC/AC had promoted the gig as their last ever and produced fantastic special programmes and T-shirts.
'There is no doubt the gig certainly left the audience wanting more.
The lighting, sound, entertainment and musicianship was superb.'
Kevin, Dick and John were for many years the backline of the very popular local rock covers band Brazen. Dockers — as Paul is better known — has been a member of numerous local bands and his most recent project is called Sawbones. Their CD, created by Dockers, Dave Smyth and Adie Evans, has been getting some good airplay on the Island's radio stations.
Special guests Maldune will be opening the show for DC/AC.
The band has been entertaining the Manx public for more than 15 years.
Jonno Gollow said: 'JonnoPromotions is particularly proud to have been approached by DC/AC to promote and manage this very special Manx musical happening. Andy James will be stage manager for this event, ELS will be providing the lighting technology and Mark Cleator of Manx Sound will be leading the sound team.'
Doors open for the show at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
Tickets are £12 each and will go on sale on Monday (February 15) at 9.30am from the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, Douglas, online at www.villagaiety.com and from the ticket hotline 600555.
