A woman from Douglas has had her head shaved for charity and so far raised £2,055.
Helen Martin held a ’Braving the Shave for Huntington’s Disease’ night at the Manx Legion in Douglas recently.
There was also a raffle with 60 prizes such as hampers, vouchers and bottles.
A family member has the disease so the charity is a cause close to Helen’s heart.
Helen said: ’This was to raise money but also to raise awareness. There are a small amount of people on island that have this disease, it is very rare. www.hda.org.uk tells you all about it.’
Huntington’s Disease, which is often called HD, is an hereditary disorder of the central nervous system. It used to be known as Huntington’s Chorea or HC. Huntington’s Disease usually develops in adulthood and can cause a very wide range of symptoms. The disease affects both men and women.
