Isle of Man Badminton Association has selected its team of players for the 2017 NatWest Island Games in Gotland this summer.
The team has a familiar feeling, with long-time representatives Jonny Callow, Neil Harding and Kim Clague returning for their seventh consecutive games respectively.
There is much excitement around the prospects of Adam Colley and Jess Li, who are currently training full time in Bath as part of their university studies.
Both have achieved impressive results on the UK badminton circuit, and hope to build on the experience gained in Jersey back in 2015 during the Isle of Man’s impressive bronze-medal winning performance in the team event.
Kim Clague travels to Gotland as the women’s doubles defending gold medallist, and hopes are high that she can take the title for a third straight games with new partner Jess Li.
Coach Ben Li will have plenty of options available during the team event, with Baillie Watterson and Matt Nicholson selected to complete the line-up for the men, with sisters Abi and Philippa Li selected, with Alex Bell completing the line up for the women.
Philippa and Alex have both been an integral part of the county team this season, and have been rewarded with an Island Games call-up for the first time.
The Gotland Games consists of a team event, followed by individual events across the six days of competition. There is a real chance of the team improving on their medal haul of one gold, one silver and one bronze achieved in Jersey in 2015.
