Atkinson makes it a double at British champs

By Sports reporter in Swimming

Less than 24 hours after becoming the first Manx person to claim a British Swimming Championship title in half a century, Charlotte Atkinson was at it again on Thursday evening.

Having set a new Isle of Man record in the women’s 50m butterfly the previous day in 26.81 seconds, the Isle of Man Sportswoman of the Year then qualified fasted for the 200m women’s butterfly.

The Loughborough University student was in irrepressible form in the final as she romped home in a time of two minutes 7.06secs which was the fifth best time in the world this year so far.

Her result was also within the consideration time for this summer’s World Championships, meaning she has given herself a great chance of being picked for Team GB to travel to Budapest in July.
