Rugby: Manx Plate title for Douglas Celts

in Rugby

Douglas Rugby Club’s remarkable season continued at Mooragh Park on Saturday as the Port-e-Chee outfit’s second string won the Manx Plate.

The Celts beat Western Vikings 24-12 in the final of the Shimmin Wilson-sponsored competition to add the trophy to the Manx Shield crown won earlier in the year.

Nathan Knights continued his prolific season for the Celts, grabbing a hat-trick in Saturday’s win.

Carl Convroy picked up his side’s other try, while two conversions from Max Morley-Green sealed his side the silverware.

Vikings put up a spirited showing and were level 7-7 at the break.

Paul Wheeldon and Sam Radcliffe scored the Peel side’s tries, a Ryan Burke conversion making up the westerners’ tally.

The Celts could yet make it a domestic treble with a Manx Trophy final appearance to follow.

This is without mentioning the endeavors of the club’s first team who face Salford side De La Salle in a promotion play-off this weekend , ahead of a Manx Cup semi-final against Vagabonds later this month.
