CRAIG'S Heartstrong Foundation has been chosen as the third charity to benefit from the OSA Recruitment £1,000 give away.
OSA Recruitment is handing out £1,000 per month to different charities — who nominate themselves — over 10 months to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The money was dearly needed by the Craig's Heartstrong Foundation to buy privacy screens for the charity's work of screening hearts.
Founder of the charity, Paula Lunt, was overjoyed at the news.
'I'm absolutely elated because we want to buy our own privacy screens,' she said.
'Every year someone lends us some, which is great, but it takes time to borrow a van and get them. I found screens to buy and I thought I would write in.'
Craig's Heartstrong Foundation is an established Manx charity, set up by the Lunt family in memory of their 25-year-old son, Craig, a talented footballer who tragically died in April 2005. His death was because of a previously undiagnosed heart defect.
Craig's condition was what is known as Long QT syndrome, which is a disorder of the electrical system of the heart and one of a range of conditions that cause unexplained sudden death in young people.
The focus of the charity is to raise funding to enable heart screening of people between the ages of 14 and 35 in the Isle of Man in order to detect any possible defects.
OSA managing director Bernie Murphy said: 'I am delighted we have been able to help Craig's Heartstrong Foundation by making the charity the recipient of our third £1,000 give away.
'Paula wrote to us with a specific need, which was for the charity to have its own privacy screens.
'I am pleased that we have been able to make this happen with this give away.'
Craig's Heartstrong Foundation will hold its third annual heart screening weekend on February 7 and 8. More than 200 people have already signed up.
