A WHOPPING 31 bags of rubbish were collected off Castletown beach by Beach Buddies on Sunday, November 4.

Items collected by the 38 volunteers – including two local police officers – featured some large pollutants such as fish boxes and plastic containers.

‘We also found three syringes, one agricultural, which shows how important it is that we clean the beaches to remove such items out of the way of our children and pets,’ said organiser Bill Dale.

This was the second beach clean organised by the Beach Buddies this year. At the first, at Ballaugh Cronk, they collected more rubbish in one clean than in any session during the six years since Beach Buddies was founded.

The buddies were then due to clean Ramsey north beach, last Sunday and will hit Douglas beach next Sunday, November 18, at 10.30am.

Anyone willing to sponsor a session, at £100, should email beachbuddies(at)manx.net, or contact Bill, phone 496560.
