THE Ward Library in Peel enjoyed a very busy time on National Libraries Day.

In addition, infromation about local organisations, clubs and charities was displayed at the library in Castle Street in the week leading up to February 9.

Librarian Carol Horton said: ‘It went brilliant, it really did.’

She explained the library also held a display old photographs of Peel and that this and local information proved to be of interest to people.

‘Also I had a pile of leaflets from local organisations and charities and clubs.

‘The response I got from people giving me the information was amazing.

‘It has been so successful that with the other libraries doing something similar we’re considering doing it [having a libraries day] on an annual basis.’

She added: ‘The amount of people that came through; it was one of the busiest Saturdays I have had for quite a while.

‘Book issues were well up.’

A lucky dip held for a year’s free menbership of the Ward Library was won by Sharon Kaighin.

Children didn’t didn’t go away empty handed as they were given Captain Underpants goodies or Lifeboat keyrings and pencils.

A book amnesty was held and this continues until the end of the month, so people can return their overdue books without incurring a fine.

The Ward Library is open Monday to Wednesday 1.30 - 5.30pm; Friday 10am - midday and 2pm - 6pm; Saturday 10am - midday and 2pm - 5.30pm.

The library is closed Thursday and Sunday.
