A RANGE of events took place at Tynwald Mills in St John’s over the summer – all raising money for Save The Children.

The events included a mini-olympics, fashion show, jubilee event, circus people, crafts and a Royal wedding day.

In the mini-olympics, competitors were very enthusiastic and were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals for their efforts.

The winners all stood proudly on the podium to receive their winning medals.

There was a traditional feel to the games, which saw children taking part in egg and spoon, hopping, three-legged, bouncy ball and hat races.

Red, white and blue bunting was put in place as the children and adults got into the spirit of the games.

The staff at Tynwald Mills enjoyed coming up with ideas on what events to put on for the charity.

The charity has received the support of the store for five years. Each year on average the store has raised £5,000 and due to the staffs’ commitment the store has recently been awarded the first Save The Children Community Partnership award in the island.

Rosemary Walters, vice president and area representative for Save The Children, enjoyed the mini-olympics.

She said: ‘It was a traditional fun games. The children entered with enthusiasm, some of the adults were laughing at the enthusiasm on their [the children’s] faces when they were taking part in the bouncy ball race.

‘It was huge fun, everyone enjoyed. One lady said “that was the nicest afternoon, at a shopping complex, that I have ever had”.’

Tynwald Mills has just presented Save The Children with a £500 cheque, which was raised through donations, from events that took place last month.

Save The Children is grateful for the hard work all the staff at Tynwald Mills put into raising the funds.

Rosemary has previously described Tynwald Mills as ‘a company with a heart’.
