THERE was a good turnout at the Southern Gardeners’ Club summer show on Saturday, August 25, at Morton Hall, Castletown – and a few volunteers have come forward to help, so the show will go on.
The advanced age of committee members and physical toll of running a two-day show meant this year they held the show for one day only.
‘You are on your feet, it’s two full days moving tables, so we decided one day was no bad thing,’ said committee secretary Joyce Corlett.
Also, because of the amount of work involved, in the past fears have been expressed about the future of the show, but two people have offered their help, one of whom is ‘computer literate’, said Joyce, ‘which is a God send’. She added: ‘I do not think for a minute we will fold, there are plans for next year.’
The club’s annual general meeting is in St Catherine’s church hall, Port Erin, at 7.45pm on October 12.
