Horse trams attract visitors

Have your say

Recently I read that Douglas Council was thinking of discontinuing the horse trams on the promenade.

I hope that will not happen because, along with other unique attractions, it is something which helps to bring visitors to the Isle of Man.

For that reason, the loss of £207,700 for last year should not be looked at in isolation. Such a loss sounds substantial but I have calculated that it amounts to only £2.59 per head of the island’s population.

l Editors’ note: Douglas Council is not considering the discontinuation of the horse trams. However, as the Manx Independent revealed on January 28, the possibility has been raised in a consultation document issued by the Department of Infrastructure over ways to improve Douglas promenades.
