I AM writing to support staff and to try to reassure relatives involved with the use of the Liverpool Care Pathway.
There is no point in having real or artificial food or fluids or medication if the body can no longer cope with it.
Caring professionals are not rushed into putting a patient into the Pathway unless appropriate and judge the right moment carefully.
The use of this Care Pathway is the kindest way when dying. Sedation and pain control are prescribed by medical staff so that the patient can receive it as soon as they need it.
They don’t have to wait for a doctor to prescribe it before the nurse can give it.
My next of kin has received this care and I would like it to be available should I need it in the future.
