Live here for five years before you get any benefits

Have your say

I would like to make comment about the letter about the spongers (Target the spongers, Manx Indepedent letters, February 18).

I agree with some of what was said, and I do feel that we have to be careful that the Isle of Man isn’t seen as a soft touch for the rest of the world when it comes to benefits.

If we have a five-year residency rule, why can’t this be applied to benefits, free healthcare, etc?

There isn’t anywhere I could go in the world, except maybe the UK, and expect to have these things for free, so why here?

And could someone tell me if it’s true that priority is being given to non-English speaking children over Manx children for pre-school education in parts of the island?

This isn’t about racism but equality.
