Privatising transport problems

Have your say

THE Man On The Onchan Omnibus (Transport may be better privatised, Independent letters, May 17) does not seem to be aware that the bus services in the Isle of Wight are run by Southern Vectis, and not Stagecoach.

Stagecoach, through its South West Trains subsidiary, only runs the electric railway, which by no stretch of the imagination is a heritage railway, although it is operated with rather elderly former London tube trains.

It is quite possible the collisions mentioned between buses and trains could easily have occurred under privatised operation!

After all, such events are reported from time to time in the national press, so it is not valid to conclude private enterprise might perform better.
