A medieval murder

YOU are invited to dig out your most ruthless investigative skills for a medieval Murder at the Monastery in March.

Island murder mystery group WASP will host its new fundraising production at St Ninian’s Church, Douglas, at 7pm on Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16.

WASP has been performing three-act murder mystery dinner theatre events for the last three years while at the same time raising more than £6,000 for various churches and charities islandwide.

Now this year, they are ready to premier their new format Murder at the Monastery co-written by members Helen Jessopp and Derek Myers.

Derek explained: ‘It promises to be WASP’s biggest challenge yet, as the medieval theme means that all the cast will be performing in medieval costumes. And members of the Lothene Medieval Re-enactment Society from Scotland will also be joining the cast for the performances in March to add additional authenticity to this latest production, as well as performing medieval songs.’

He said: ‘It is based on the feast of St Quilliam, when the Lord of the Manor is brutally murdered and it is up to those in attendance to bring the culprit to justice, as they exercise their detective skills, including having the opportunity to examine the evidence and question the suspects first hand.’

‘Why do we call ourselves WASP? Well every good murder mystery has a sting in the tale!’ exclaimed Derek.

Guests will be served a two-course meal, including a full hog roast (a vegetarian option is available), dessert, tea/coffee and after dinner mints. Bring your own own wine, ale and mead. And, to enter into the spirit of the evening, you are encouraged to wear your best period doublet and hose or ladies kirtle and gown.

Tickets cost £25 and are available by calling 801194 or emailing wasp@manx.net
