AN art exhibition with a difference opens at St Ninian’s Church, Douglas, this month.

On display from August 25 to 31 will be a range of modern digital art produced by Bob Hitchen, in his first exhibition.

He turned to this medium in 2000 – teaching himself the skills – after his diabetes meant that his hands were unsteady.

While he was unable to carry on producing art by hand, he found that he could continue to do so by using his computer.

He is eager to thank Noble’s Hospital’s diabetic centre for its support.

So he decided to donate a proportion of the proceeds of the exhibition – all the artwork is for sale – to the centre.

Both the exhibition, and the title of the central image on posters publicising the exhibition, is Imagination.

‘The power of one man’s imagination and the intelligence of man’s tools has exceeded all known conventions to create DIGI-RAMA, a panorama of modern digital artwork,’ he said.

Bob has long had an interest in art.

At the age of 15 he completed an art and design course while on day release from work.

He said that he used art as a way to relax, but was encouraged by his wife to put the work – 40 pictures in total – on display.
