BOOK: A Tail for All Seasons
A Tail for All Seasons, A collection of Manx stories, volume one Priory Press, £9.99 Review by Patricia Foulkes
I HAVE to admit I am a very strange book reader as I usually skip chapters and often read the final chapter first before returning to the start to read the full story.
Not this time. I read these short stories end to end and never cheated. The book's editor Linda Mann has brought together a collection of 12 stories that are compelling reading. Each tale keeps you captivated. I am from Yorkshire so the history and folklore of this mystical and very spiritual Island is hypnotic.
I couldn't do a Simon Cowell and pick one particular story as each one is extraordinary. This is very entertaining reading made all the more compelling by having local locations.
I can't wait for the next volume.
This is ideal winter reading. I read A Tail for All Seasons over a weekend sat cosily on the settee with my two westies Poppy and Charlie.
The mix of 12 stories comprises one for each month of the year. And they all have an unexpexted element — a sting in the tail.
Highly recommended and would make an ideal Christmas present for anyone who likes a good read.
