Classical musicians launch Christmas CD this weekend

POPULAR classical musicians Kristene Sutcliffe and Gareth Moore are launching a new CD entitled What Christmas Means to Me at St George's Church in Douglas at 3pm on Sunday.

The duo, well know, for their harmonious collaboration, wanted to express the true meaning of the season through some of the most beautiful music in their repertoire, from the majesty of Handel's Messiah, to intimate Christmas songs around the piano.

Both musicians attended Castle Rushen High School and went on to successfully complete honours degrees at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. After careers teaching and performing in the UK and Europe they both returned to the Island.

Kristene is busy teaching music at her Douglas practice and she and husband Chris are expecting their first child in March.

Her latest role was Mrs Anna in Taylorian Productions' The King and I.

Gareth is hugely involved in music making in the Isle of Man and when he's not buying and restoring church organs, he works as a music teacher at King William's College. He continues to give organ recitals both here and in the UK.

The pair of performers have uncovered two Manx carols which have never been recorded before and the entire Christmas compilation was recorded in St George's Church in the Isle of Man. Proceeds from the sale of the CD will be donated to Hospice Isle of Man.

On their first recording, Kristene said: 'It's been great fun putting this CD together, we hope that everyone enjoys our music and it becomes the soundtrack to many very merry Manx Christmases.'

Everyone is welcome at the launch, which includes a short, free concert, compered by Manx Radio's Judith Ley.

CDs will be on sale after the concert.
