Cult classic treat for film fans at Halloween
HOP-TU-NAA and Halloween start early in Peel with a screening of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show (15) at the Centenary Centre tonight (Friday).
The film is being shown by Films in Peel and the audience is encouraged to dress up as their favourite character or to just go along and join in the fun.
This wacky musical, full of tongue-in-cheek double entendres, first hit the big screen in 1975. It tells the story of an innocent couple — played by a young Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick — whose car breaks down on a dark and stormy night. They knock on the door of a nearby castle looking for help.
As the door creaks open they are drawn into the bizarre, outrageous, stocking-clad world of Dr. Frank N Furter (played by Tim Curry) and his Transylvanian transvestite pals.
Memorable songs such as Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me and Time Warp will get the audience singing.
The films coming up at the Centenary Centre in November are both from 2009: In the Loop (15) and Looking for Eric (15).
In the Loop, which will be shown on Friday, November 6, is a political satire, a spin off from the BBC television series The Thick Of It, by Armando Iannucci, with Peter Capaldi in the leading role.
It is set in Britain and America just before the invasion of Iraq and the fast and furious dialogue between the half witted politicians and government staff who work behind the scenes is funny and clever.
Looking for Eric, to be screened on Friday, November 20, is the latest film by award winning British director Ken Loach. This is a very funny and at times touching film about a postman, Eric, who is going through a mid-life crisis. His friends encourage him to try some self-help techniques and adopt a role model. So he does…Eric Cantona (played brilliantly by himself!). This is not a film about football but friends and is a light hearted comedy that will be enjoyed by all.
Tickets are available in advance from Celtic Gold, Peel, Shakti Man, Ramsey and Peter Norris Music, Douglas, at 4 full price and 3 concessions. Any unsold tickets will be available on the door. For evening screenings, doors open at 7.15pm and the screening starts at 7.45pm (unless otherwise stated). A licensed bar (evening shows only) will be available.
