Get ready for GuitarFest in the summer

THE dates for the third annual Isle of Man GuitarFest have been announced.

The event will take place at different venues in Douglas between Friday, August 27 and Sunday, August 29.

Organised by Jonno Gollow of JonnoPromotions, it will again see a line up of world class performers and local musicians in action.

On the opening night, Dan Arborise will take to the stage. He made inspired guitar work, heartfelt lyrics and beautiful vocals his trademark with his debut album Around In Circles and 2009 release Of Tide and Trail.

Around in Circles reached number two in Mike Harding's Top 10 Folk Albums on BBC Radio Two.

Support will be provided by dynamic duo Wingin' It, 2007 winners of the Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections.

The duo is made up of Adam Bulley, from Southern Tenant Folk Union, on mandolin and guitar and Chas McKenzie, from Oban, on guitars.

The following night, The Hamsters will perform their first gig in the Island in many years. It will also mark the start of their Jimi Hendrix 40th anniversary commemoration tour.

Into their 23rd year, the Essex blues rockers have played more than 4,000 gigs and show no signs of slowing down. Featuring band members with colourful monikers such as Snail's-Pace Slim, Rev Otis Elevator, Ms Zsa Zsa Poltergeist, they are sure to be entertaining.

Modern Guitar Trio, virtuoso Spanish guitarists/composers who played at the Peel Centenary Centre in 2008, will be playing on the final day.

Roland Chadwick, Roland Gallery and Vincent Lindsey-Clark have received rave reviews from critics and the public.

Local support will come from Liam Carter-Hawkins.

Local guitarists and bands have the chance to play on the Peter Norris Music Stage, at the Villa Marina Arcade during the daytime each day. For more information email acousticstage@manx.net

In addition, there will be workshops at Peter Norris Music, in Douglas, throughout the weekend.

Tickets for GuitarFest, which is supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council, will go on sale next month.

The masterclass starts at 7.30pm and will focus on the use of the guitar as a percussive instrument, melodic and harmonic tapping and altered tunings.

Jon has built up quite a following during his three previous visits, the most recent of which was at the Villa Marina in February.

He has been described as 'one of the world's most successful, gifted and inspirational guitar players' by Acoustic Magazine.
