GuitarFest returns

TICKETS for this year's Isle of Man GuitarFest are now on sale.

The third Isle of Man GuitarFest organised by JonnoPromotions Taking place from Friday, August 27 to Sunday, August 29. Since its inception the festival has attracted some of the finest players.

With a host of talented performers from off-Island, plus a selection of fine Manx artists, the 2010 festival promises to be yet another hit.

The festival programme has now been finalised and the following events are planned:

Dan Arborise has been described as 'John Martyn meets Nick Drake for the 21st Century'.

In fact he was the first artist ever recommended by www.johnmartyn.com and Uncut called his work 'acoustic guitar hymns to truth and beauty … beguiling'.

The Hamsters Play Jimi Hendrix With special guest support.

'Nobody does the music of Hendrix better' according to The Times. This will be the rocking rodents' first gig in the Isle of Man for 10 years.

The festival will represent the start of The Hamsters' Jimi Hendrix 40th Anniversary Memorial Tour - their last full Hendrix tour was in 1995. 'They're fabulous: one of Britain's very best live bands,' said Bob Harris on Radio 2.

The Modern Guitar Trio featuring Roland Chadwick with local support from Liam Carter-Hawkins

Sunday, August 29 – 7.30pm

Spanish guitar players and composers Roland Chadwick, Roland Gallery and Vincent Lindsey-Clark return to the Isle of Man for their Douglas debut. They have been playing together since 2001 and each member of the trio brings his own unique contribution to the group.

They last played in the Island in March 2008 and they will again be supported by local guitarist Liam Carter-Hawkins.

'It is fun and musical with the mark of three eminent maestros,' according to Classical Guitar Magazine.

The festival will also involve free music from many local guitarists and bands on the Peter Norris Music Stage in the Villa Marina Arcade on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the day.

Any act who wants to play on the acoustic stage should email acousticstage@manx.net with a link to a site where organiser Jonno Gollow can hear some sample music.

The GuitarFest has brought some of the very best guitarists in different styles to the Island in the past couple of years.

The likes of Pierre Bensusan, Clive Carroll, Juan Martin and Albert Lee are among the acts to have played.

There will also be workshops by Roland Chadwick, Dan Arborise, Adam Bulley and Chas MacKenzie at Peter Norris Music during the weekend.

Weekend festival tickets, for all three concerts, are available at 36.50 - or 34.50 for concessions or earlybird.
