Mature and revealing EP

Cate Le Bon
CYRK II
IT’S not very often an artist gives you a second bite of the cherry when it comes to listening to a great selection of recordings.
Often the tracks that didn’t make an album are shelved and never see the light of day.
Cate Le Bon released her second album, CYRK, last year to rave reviews and it became a quality hit to ensure she is a singer-songstress who is held in high regard.
And now, rather than rush to a new album, a new sound, Le Bon has released CYRK II which treats us to the songs cut from the original line up.
Although from the Welsh artist’s same era, there is a different feel to these tracks, which total 26 minutes so create more of an EP than an LP.
Mature, revealing and being an older sister to CYRK, CYRK II really is worth a listen.
The uncomplicated tunes make the complex lyrics take priority and allow her voice to achieve maximum impact.
Le Bon heads onto the road in September, and her live shows have become something of a delicacy.
She has a huge stage presence for somebody with just three records under her belt, giving decidedly dead-eye stares, holding guitars aloft and generally leaving the crowd wanting more.
Keep an eye on this one.
