Michael Berk making fourth visit to the Isle of Man

ON the bill with Juan Martin is Michael Berk who will be making his fourth visit to the Island to perform.

It will no doubt be an unusual experience for Michael as he used to use Juan's tutorial video to learn flamenco guitar!

'It's going to be quite interesting meeting the guy. He's a fantastic player and the tutorial stuff I think has really made his name.'

Acoustic guitar virtuoso Michael has previously played in Laxey and Peel and the concert on Friday, August 29, will see him make his Gaiety Theatre debut.

There is also a Manx connection to Michael's appearance – copies of his new album FAR will be available to buy and the photographs used on the album were taken by well known Manx music photographer Adrian Cowin at Michael's Peel Centenary Centre concert in autumn 2007.

Adrian has been credited for his work on the album and will also be acting as Jonno Promotions official photographer for GuitarFest.

In terms of Michael, the 12 Bar Club said about him: 'Michael performs a storming set of acoustic guitar virtuosity, exploiting the guitar as a percussive instrument.'

And with Juan Martin, Liam Carter-Hawkins and Stepan Podobsky also on the bill it will certainly be a night of brilliant guitar playing all round.

>>GuitarFest 2008 has been organised by Jonno Gollow, of Jonno Promotions, and the event is supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.

Jonno is a well known figure in the Manx music scene and has organised numerous gigs by visiting artists. He has booked Michael before as well as the likes of fellow guitarists Roland Chadwick and Jon Gomm. Only recently he brought over Australian singer songwriter Jeff Lang and that gig will no doubt go down as one of the highlights of the year.
