Planes Over Paris land Kaiser Chiefs support
PLANES Over Paris have been confirmed as the support band for the sold-out Kaiser Chiefs gig at the Villa Marina, Douglas, on August 26.
The band, consisting of Paul Salisbury on vocals and guitar, Steph Gomaa on keys/synth and vocals, Martyn Cain (bass) and Ben O'Hare (drums), have been causing a sensation with their live shows.
And those who want to know what the fuss is about can catch the band at the Railway in Douglas tomorrow (Saturday).
The Kaiser Chiefs gig sold out within minutes meaning that Planes Over Paris will perform on the Royal Hall stage in front of a packed audience.
Ben said: 'We're really looking forward to playing on such a big stage to lots of people,' while Steph added: 'We're really looking forward to opening up for the Kaiser Chiefs and showing a little local talent at such a high-profile event.
We hope we can do the flourishing Manx music scene the justice it deserves.'
They thanked Triskel Promotions' Lenny Conroy – who is bringing the Kaiser Chiefs over – for giving them the opportunity.
Lenny said: 'While there was a clear adrenalin rush signing the Kaiser Chiefs gig it was equally exciting to ensure a local support was possible and even more particularly because it's Planes Over Paris.
'Long overdue a chance in the spotlight, I have no doubt the band will perform an impressive display to a local crowd!'
The band have been busy in the bunker for the past six months writing and recording and their EP, Lights, will be out on June 1 via iTunes while physical copies will be available at the Railway tomorrow night.
It was recorded and produced by the band themselves at the
3AM Studio.
It features three tracks – Hospital Patio, Someone Else's Sun and Temporise.
The first track contains samples from flight 93 from the 9/11 attacks.
They said: 'The story of flight 93 has hope. Some of the passengers found out what was going on and fought the hijackers.
The song's slow sound builds and cascades and then the brutal section two thirds of the way through fits the events that occured that day and we feel that it's a fitting tribute to the people who did actually stand up and fight on that day. People have mentioned that it could also be on the 28 Days Later soundtrack as it's very dark and scary sounding. We love it.'
The band says Someone Else's Sun lyrically touches on the age-old tale of falling for the taken with the end realisation refrain of 'but you're someone else's sun'.
Lyrically, the final track Temporise covers the end of one relationship, drowned in lies, cheating and deceit and the spawning of a new partnership.
The band sas there is bile in there, but hope when the chorus laments 'Tell me, tell me, how come we fit so perfectly?'
For those who can't make tomorrow's gig there are plenty of opportunities coming up to see the band live.
After being out of the spotlight for a while it looks like their return will have the impact of a juggernaut.
