A PHOTOGRAPHER from the Isle of Man has been awarded the runner-up position in a category of a prestigious competition.

Simon Park’s image The Wave was given the nod in the Classic View category of the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards.

Founded by leading landscape photographer Charlie Waite and now in their sixth year, the awards celebrate the beauty and diversity of British landscapes.

Simon’s image was captured earlier this year when the sea in Douglas bay was extremely rough.

The caption he included with the photograph for his competition entry said: ‘This is Douglas Promenade and the energy and movement of the sea on this particular day was amazing.

‘I was ready and waiting and got many good frames before I heard a thunder clap and reacted instinctively, tripping the shutter.’

The image, together with other winning images, were featured by the Sunday Times at the weekend.

They will also appear in Amateur Photographer magazine on Monday.

The winning images will also appear in the book of the competition.

The top prize was taken by Staffordshire-based David Byrne and was a black and white image of Lindisfarne Castle with unusual ‘fishing boat’ sheds in the foreground.
