Taking a good look around the world
ASPIRATIONAL landscape photographs taken around the world are the subject of part-time photographer Julian Storey’s exhibition.
And his work is currently on display at the top floor of the Villa Marina, Douglas.
Julian, of Douglas, said: ‘It is a collection of my international and local landscapes taken over the past couple of years, since going back into photography.
‘I’m very anti-Photoshop so I try and deliver good quality photographs on a digital format. I just use filters and technique to deliver the results.’
He added: ‘I’m hoping the exhibition at the Villa Marina will make people realise photos don’t have to be Photoshopped to be good.’
His work combines his love of photography and travel: ‘I love to travel. As long as I can take my camera I’m happy.’
His favourite destinations are Austria and Germany.
Included in the exhibition is a shot of the Oresund Bridge – which crosses the border between Denmark and Sweden – taken while sailing underneath it, and an atmospheric photo of Douglas, celebrating the 135th anniversary of the horse tram service.
Julian said he had received a ‘really positive reaction’ from visitors, saying: ‘Hopefully there’s something for everyone. The idea is that people get drawn into the photos.’
Originally from South Yorkshire, Julian, aged 39, is a second generation photographer. His father Val mentored him from an early age: ‘Specialising in mining and industrial photography, my father ensured I received a diverse and unique photographic education compared to some of my contemporaries at the time, which now affords me a wide spectrum to draw upon with my work.’
The exhibition was originally due to run until the end of August, but he has been asked whether it can extend into September.
He thanked Dawn Maddrell and Villa Marina staff for their support.
