PATCH PERFECT: Sheena Quayles A Bit Freyed at the Edges

THE latest art exhibition in the Hodgson Loom Gallery in Laxey reveals the latest work of Sheena Quayle and Pat Kelly.

2 Connect is a joint venture covering themes of ‘Talismans and Amulets’ in conjunction with ‘Deconstructed/Reconstructed’.

Starting on July 14, the exhibition runs at the Laxey Woollen Mills gallery until Saturday, August 11.

It features a wonderfully diverse and eclectic mix of handmade textiles, collagraph prints, embroidery, incredible imagination and inventive creativity by these artists.

Pat uses many media but specialises in using plant dyed fibres and felting, researched from natural medicines and native customs.

Her display of ‘Talismans and Amulets’ will guide you through a history of mystical protection revealing the meanings behind many beliefs, symbols and charms - from the power of the Eye of Horus to the symbolism of a pomegranate.

Meanwhile Sheena’s speciality is ‘Deconstruction and Reconstruction’.

Coming from a background of make-do-and-mend, Sheena, an avid hoarder, creatively recycles textiles, packaging, buttons and general household bits and pieces, reworking and repurposing them using a variety of techniques such as quilting, collagraph printing, basketry and embroidery.

Together, the creative talents of Pat and Sheena have produced an intriguing textural and visually delightful exhibition.

The gallery is open Monday to Saturday between 9am and 5pm.
