MALDUNE: Steve Nash, Gary Smith, Denzel Smith and Alex Cowley will reform to play a Douglas gig tomorrow (Saturday)
AFTER calling time on 17 years of the band in 2011, this weekend Maldune will reform for one last hurrah.
The rockers will play a one-off reunion gig tomorrow (Saturday) at The Crescent, Queens Promenade, Douglas.
Frontman Gary Smith said: ‘We got together and decided it would be good to do one more gig. With people about to start families, it was now or never for one big shindig!’
The band – guitarist and singer Smith, Steve Nash on bass, Alex Cowley on second guitar and Denzel Smith on drums – will play a two-hour set.
‘We’ll be playing as a five-piece for the first time, with Joe Crookall on keys,’ revealed Gary, who said rehearsals have been sounding sharp.
‘He will make a big difference to the sound, he’s really talented.’
Support is in the shape of the funky-folk poetry of Teresa McNulty, and the evening will be finished off by DJ Blair playing a mix of indie, rock and dance into the early hours.
Doors open at 7.30pm and the entrance fee is £5.
Maldune has already raised in excess of £600 for Macmillan Cancer Support through sales of their last album.
The CDs cost £5 and the £3 profit from each CD goes to the charity. Further CDs will be available on the night and from Peter Norris Music in the weeks following the gig.
The final proceeds will be handed over to Macmillan on Saturday, March 2, so get your CDs while you can.
Before tomorrow’s big night, The Crescent will show it is earning its stripes as a live venue by hosting Dark Horse’s Techno Night tonight (Friday).
The gig is called Mass Effect, brought to you by the same team that put on Joe Driscoll and Sekou Kouyate at the Villa Marina last year, and a week of gigs at Amber during TT Week.
The huge sound system downstairs at The Crescent will lend itself well to Mass Effect’s techno DJs Mo Pishvaie, Fearon and Lister.
Tickets are £4 on the door, and the night will run from 8pm til 1am.

From one burgeoning venue to another, the Schooner Bar in Ramsey is trying something tomorrow (Saturday).
February Funk will see DJs Kym Holland, Christian Clague and Darren Millar head north, from 8pm til 1am, free admission.
It’s no flash in the pan for the Schooner, with the visit of Ballagroove DJs on March 1 hosting their Hot Feet event, more to follow closer to the time on that.
