The Manx Sound Exchange: Musical engagements

New Manx band Dos Coronitas

New Manx band Dos Coronitas

FIRST up this week, congratulations to Final Cut bassist Luke Chambers and former Twisted Angel and current Barefoot Revolutionary Steph Motley on their engagement at the weekend – may the Manx musical community raise a glass.

Elsewhere at the weekend, young new original outfit Dos Coronitas played their first gig, and it’s always nice to write about a debut.

Drummer Sam Elliot sets the scene: ‘We are an indie rock band who write our own music. We like to introduce ourselves as something new and a little bit different on the Manx scene.

‘Three of the members began band life in The Pointless Jesters and have come back together with a new cymbal hitter to create the new lineup.

‘The lyrics and themes of our songs come from personal experiences found growing up on the Isle of Man.’

He said: ‘Our first gig was at Amber, the crowd was supportive and fantastic. We played alongside the brilliant Jake Orritt and the equally wonderful Adam and the Cavemen which really helped us regain our passion for gigging.

‘This rekindled flame has given us the desire to gig as much as possible during the festive period when the band is back from university. We plan to play at as many venues as we can around the island and spread our love for music.’

On the subject of regular paid gigs, getting on the books of party organisers Party Explosion might be handy. Owner Alan Durrant is looking for bands and singers of all genres, to compile a database that’s easy to book.
