'The new Hendrix'
VIRTUOSO guitarist Jon Gomm is coming back to the Isle of Man next month.
The highly acclaimed musician and singer will be playing on Saturday, December 1, at the Centenary Centre, in Peel, the same venue where he mesmerised an audience last November.
In a review of that show I stated: 'He is the most unique guitar player I have seen, using his guitar for a range of percussion sounds as much as a six-stringed instrument.
'His music is as difficult to describe as it is no doubt difficult to play, but all his various techniques combined made it sound as if there were several people on the stage.
'Jon had a great personality and built up a real rapport with the crowd ... the impressive tracks were as great to watch being performed as to listen to.'
Jon is a singer-songwriter and acoustic solo performer and uses one acoustic guitar to create drum sounds, basslines and sparkling melodies all at the same time.
The emphasis is on soulful vocals and songwriting, although his original material is influenced by everything from Robert Johnson to Radiohead and Roni Size to Joni Mitchell.
He has received rave reviews from numerous publications and has been described as 'perhaps the most astounding guitarist you will ever see and hear,' 'the future of acoustic guitar playing,' and 'the new Hendrix'.
The event has been organised by jonnopromotions and Jon's support for the gig is Gallo whose 'unique kick-ass femme-chic funk-rock-jazz-pop style' is the brainchild of vocalist/saxophonist Natasha Koczy and guitarist Bonnie Curtis.
A wide-range of influences resulting in an unique musical-cocktail is the key to their sound: they can shift in a blink from the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Portishead to Miles Davis to Nirvana to The Cardigans to Roni Size.
Natasha and Bonnie have honed their own songwriting skills and play acoustic gigs regularly to tweak and fine-tune their craft, to the point that they now organise a weekly songwriters' night.
They have been described by Leedsmusicscene.com as 'phenomenal stuff, both in their genre-defying cocktail of influences and in their stunningly-good songs'.
Tickets are 10 in advance (12 on the door) and are available from Celtic Gold, Peel, Peter Norris Music, Douglas, Shakti Man and Ramsey Music Supplies, Ramsey. The show starts at 8pm.
