NINETY homes in Ballasalla lost their gas supply late on Wednesday afternoon.
Manx Gas said the accidental damage was caused by a third party, but declined to provide any more details of the exact cause of the damage while an investigation was under way.
The incident, which led to a gas escape from the medium pressure LPG supply, happened at about 3pm and nearly all the homes affected in Clagh Vane and the southern part of the Douglas Road area had been reconnected by 9pm.
Engineers had to safely isolate all 90 properties and complete the repair to the damaged main before they could access each home and reconnect their customers’ supply.
As the Manx Independent went to press, just three homes were still left to be connected. This was because Manx Gas had been unable to get hold of the occupants.
The company has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the incident.
