ONLY fools choose not to say 'hello' to the fairies at Fairy Bridge.
And even those who aren't superstitious would have been rubbing their eyes in disbelief this morning (Wednesday, April 1) when a man-sized fairy stood at the bridge waving to passing motorists.

Mark Turton, head barman at C'est La Vie in Victoria Street, Douglas, donned fairy wings for the April Fools prank.

'My motives are a complete mystery, but sheer idiocy can never be ruled out!' he said. 'My colleagues at work came up with the idea, and I was the only fool to actually bring it to fruition.

'The response from the motorists was excellent, with many horns blowing and lights flashing, although I did get a few bemused stares from drivers with English plates.

'I had taken the precaution of clearing this escapade with Castletown police yesterday, I didn't fancy the idea of being in jail dressed as a fairy!'

Mark brightened my day no end, all the other cars beeped and flashed their lights, no one in work believed me till we all saw it on IOM Today, it was fantastic to see such a lovely fairy sending wishes to all the drivers this morning, he even had a little dance ! it was stunning !

As the Fairy Bridge Fairys official photographer this morning, I have to say what a brave man Mark Turton was, as he said, it was the idea of the other member of staff at C'est La Vie, and he was the only one daring enough to dress up at 7.30 on a chilly Wednesday morning in a pink fairy dress, cerise tights and a pretty pink wig and headdress to grant all those people heading to work their wishes for this April 1st. We are all proud of him and would like him to know that we are producing posters for him as keep sake and constant reminder of his courageous efforts that will not be forgotten.

Best April Fool's Day humour yet. Well done, we need something to take our minds off other issues right now.

With all the attention on binge-drinking these days, he might have chosen not to bring a bottle of vodka with him. Nice legs though!

I just hope he didn't frighten the real fairies. (Wish I'd seen him though!)
