OLD favourites topped the list of names given to babies born in the Island last year.
The General Registry revealed that Jack was the first choice for boys for the third year running, ahead of Thomas and Charles (including Charlie).

Sophie (including Sofie/a), which regularly features in the top 10, was the most popular girls' name, beating Jessica and Lily (including Lillie).

Charles, Matthew, Amy and Abigail returned to the charts after a couple of years absence.

There were 918 births in the Island in 2007, down 13 on 2006, and 789 deaths compared with 765 last year.

Today's Vote

The airport could save £2 million a year in wage bills if it were run as a commercial operation it's claimed. Would you want to see this happen?
Yes. If this money can be saved the government should do it.
No. I wouldn't want to see the airport run on a commercial-basis.
