MORE than 50 Manx faces appear on the internet in a bid to support Amnesty International.
Those involved are featured in the petition Million Faces, which is part of the campaign Control Arms launched last year by Oxfam and the International Action Network on Small Arms.

The images were collected at Oxfam, Douglas, last year.

The o
bjective is to stop international legal loopholes which allow the sale of arms to clients ranging from undemocratic regimes to gangsters.

The petition is being gathered in time for an inter-government conference on arms control in 2006 and, instead of signing the petition, a photograph is taken and added to those of others who believe in the cause.

Many of the 'signatories' have arranged special events to gather the pictures and local co-ordinator Phil Matthews hopes that the Island's faces will soon be in treble figures.

Those with a digital camera can send their pictures direct to the petition site at www.controlarms.com

Anybody over 16 can take part but due to child protection laws anyone under 16 is asked to contribute a self-portrait.

For more details contact Phil Matthews on 801866.
