HELPERS are needed to allow a charity to widen its services as part of a 25th anniversary revamp.
After a quarter of a century operating through a single care co-ordinator, Manx Cancer Help wants to branch out through a network of volunteers offering clients practical and emotional support.
It is also keen to hear from anyone interested in becoming a fundraising volunteer.
Andrea Chambers, who has been the care co-ordinator at MCH since January 2007, said the charity had decided it was 'time to expand'.
To mark its new direction, the charity has replaced the smiley face logo it has had since it began, with an image featuring a ring of people created by Julie Parys of Arts Interactive.
The cost of the charity's rebranding will be met by Miracles Recruitment Consultants of Douglas, one of two firms to make MCH its designated charity in 2008.
Staff at Barclays Wealth will also be dedicating proceeds from their fundraising this year to MCH.
Meanwhile, refurbishments are due to start at Manx Cancer Help's headquarters at the old schoolhouse in Cronkbourne in the summer.
MCH offers a free confidential listening service where cancer patients, families, friends and carers and anyone bereaved by cancer can talk openly to someone who is not involved in the situation.
It gives practical support such as shopping or driving, as well as emotional support before or after a hospital appointment or treatment, all free of charge.
The charity welcomes referrals from cancer patients, their carers and healthcare professionals.
Mrs Chambers explained new helpers did not need to have experience, as MCH offered a free, ongoing training package covering listening and communication skills as well as cancer care issues.
But candidates would be interviewed and subject to Criminal Record Bureau checks.
She said: 'Volunteers are essential to Manx Cancer Help as we look to develop and extend the services that we offer.
'The most important qualities are reliability, flexibility where possible, a willingness to listen and a non-judgemental attitude.'
