THESE days, anyone who is anyone only needs one name – think Kylie, Madonna and Britney.
And it seems a Manx celebrity is on that list after Isle of Man Post Office successfully delivered a Christmas card addressed simply to 'Norman'.

Enid Watson, of Mill Road, Greeba, last week wrote a card for her husband Malcolm to hand deliver to their friend Sir Norman Wisdom.

However, the card got mixed up with addressed envelopes and posted at the box in Greeba.

'Having a senior moment, wondering where I had put the card, I thought I must have addressed it and posted it with the others,' said Mrs Watson, who has been friends with Sir Norman for 26 years.

'On Friday, Norman's PA Ann (Axe) phoned thanking me for the card saying this was the best yet.

'It had been delivered to them with just "Norman" on it and the Post Office had written on the envelope "Try Sir Norman Wisdom".

'These postmen are brilliant, aren't they?'

Ms Axe said the letter arrived at the veteran comedian's home without a stamp.

'It's absolutely amazing', said Ms Axe.

'Mind you, some people put "Sir Norman Wisdom, Isle of Wight", or "somewhere between Blackpool and Ireland"!'

Sir Norman, 91, said he was looking forward to a Mediterranean cruise at Christmas.

He added: 'I appreciate any Christmas cards that I get from everybody.

'As long as I get them from my son and daughter and personal friends, that's all that matters.'

Bill Chacksfield, chief executive of Isle of Man Post Office, said: 'The way our postal staff handled this card is an excellent example of the dedication shown by all the staff in the Post Office.

'We are keen to provide the communities of the Island with the best possible service and this example demonstrates how we strive to exceed expectations.'
