DRIVERS who saw a wallaby bouncing along the road near the Wildlife Park on Sunday can rest assured they aren't hopping mad.
The marsupial wasn't a figure of their imaginations or a recent escapee from the park but one of the infamous wild wallabies of Ballaugh which escaped from the park many years ago.
It was spotted near Quarry Bends, just past the park, at 3pm on Sunday and was thought to have reached the road from the disused railway track.
A member of the public managed to capture the wallaby and it arrived at the park sitting in the passenger seat of someone's car.
Tina Hampton, duty manager at the park, said the wallaby was in good condition but was a little distressed and had a few minor scratches. Following observations he was released back into the wild when the roads were quieter.
