PARTICIPANTS in Junior Achievement Isle of Man will be able to benefit from advice and guidance provided by the Appleby Academy.

Aimed at upper sixth form students, the initiative is being established by Appleby (Isle of Man) LLC, a leading provider of offshore legal, fiduciary and administration services.

The Academy will be available to students attending Ballakermeen, Castle Rushen, Queen Elizabeth II, Ramsey Grammar and St Ninian’s high schools from this week and aims to give young people in the Isle of Man real life experience of working with an international organisation.

With the help of an Appleby mentor, students will present their ideas on how they would meet a particular business challenge for the chance to win a paid summer placement at Appleby.

Sean Dowling, Appleby managing partner, said: ‘Junior Achievement’s commitment to students in the Isle of Man is fantastic and we are pleased to be working with them on this exciting new initiative.

‘Appleby recognise the important role that young people play in our community and we hope that the Appleby Academy will help set them apart when applying for a university place or a job when they leave school.’

Sue Cook, chief executive of Junior Achievement Isle of Man, said: ‘I would like to thank Appleby for the financial and time commitment they have made to Junior Achievement.

‘In this climate of high youth unemployment, investment in education and work experience is more important than ever before.

‘Programmes such as the Appleby Academy will help to empower students in the Isle of Man to become business-minded by engaging them in real life business challenges.

‘They will also help to equip them with the skills and experience they need to strengthen their CV or UCAS application forms.’
