SPEED was the essence as Sure announced it was launching the island’s fastest consumer broadband service.

The communications provider is offering download speeds of up to 40 Mb and upload speeds of up to 2Mb.

‘With lightning speeds, this product will change the way our customers use the internet. Streaming movies, gaming online and listening to digital radio will be an even more pleasurable experience,’ said Andy Bridson, chief commercial officer at Sure.

He said it meant that on pressing the refresh button on the computer the response was instantaneous.

Mr Bridson said the availability of this new service is based on Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) technology.

The previous highest speed was up to 16Mb, he said.

Mr Bridson said: ‘The availability of this new broadband product is supported by Sure’s multimillion pound investment in advanced communications technologies in the Isle of Man.’

Sure 40Mb broadband will be live from October, but customers are now able to apply in advance. Prices start from £21.95 a month.

Due to technical limitations this product will only be available to customers living within two kilometres of a Manx Telecom exchange – which is about 40 per cent of all residents. Those who do not qualify will still be able to use the 16Mb broadband product.

Mr Bridson said: ‘We are very excited by the new lightning-fast broadband.

‘Speed is the essence and the biggest concern broadband users have and by offering 40Mb speeds we’re giving customers what they want.’

He added the new speed will be ideal for ‘the Facebook and internet generation.’

‘Having high speed broadband into extra urban and rural communities in the Isle of Man is great for consumers but it’s also great for inward investors – they can have people based at home, working home into office, or in the office. It certainly enables and provides for a vibrant economic base for the Isle of Man.’

Mr Bridson claimed Sure was redefining communication in the Isle of Man and staying ahead with technology.

‘As a company our focus is always on delivering reliability, value, innovation and first class customer service. I strongly believe that 40Mb broadband meets all of these and will prove to be extremely popular with our customers.

‘We continue to invest in state of the art technology to provide the best for our customers.’
