CAINS SPACE LAW PRIZE

Island-based Cains is offering a specific space law prize to graduate students currently enrolled in the masters programmes at the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France.

The Cains Prize, which is valued at $5,000 (2,800), is to be offered annually to students for the next five years.

This is the first time a commercial law firm has offered such a prize at the ISU and highlights the growing focus and commitment of the Isle of Man to the space industry. Cains offers tailored and specialised legal services to the space industry.

To win the Cains Prize students must be accepted to the ISU masters programme and have a legal background or demonstrate an interest in the legal aspects of space activity.

Andrew Corlett, managing partner of Cains, said: 'Cains consider the ISU to be a most remarkable and valuable institution occupying a central position in the space community. Accordingly we are very pleased to offer this support for its students. Cains has had the opportunity of sending several of its staff, including myself, on ISU courses over the last three years. This has proved to be of very real benefit to us, not only from a technical, but also from a networking perspective.'

Michael Simpson, president of ISU, said: 'The ISU is very appreciative of the generosity shown by Cains in offering this prize and particularly pleased that in offering this prize to a deserving student interested in legal issues associated with space, Cains recognises the international, intercultural and interdisciplinary nature of the ISU masters programme.'
