CHANCE TO STUDY SPACE BUSINESS

The recent announcements by the Manx Government of its intention to promote space-related business within the Isle of Man has generated a great deal of interest in the space industry.

To capitalise on this and to provide background information to interested parties, the International Space University (ISU), in association with ManSat Limited, will offer a short non-technical course on communications satellites, launch vehicles and other space-related business activities at the Isle of Man's International Business School from May 17-19.

The ISU, based in Strasbourg and the leading provider of graduate level education to space professionals, is sending a senior three-person team to undertake the tuition programme.

The course will assist government and business leaders to better understand this exciting sector and thus be able to discuss business and financing opportunities with space executives from companies which are now interested in the services the Isle of Man has to offer.

As an added incentive, the Isle of Man Department of Trade and Industry is co-sponsoring the event which has resulted in a reduced fee of 425 per participant.

Isle of Man-based ManSat director Ian Jarritt said: 'This is a tremendous coup to attract the interest of the International Space University and I am delighted with the support and interest we have had from both the International Business School and the DTI.

'There are a wealth of opportunities for the Island in the space business which, as far as the commercial development of it goes, is a relatively young industry. This course should appeal to lawyers, accountants, bankers, insurers and government officials as well as those in the Island's communications and precision manufacturing industries.'

Anyone interested should contact the ISU's admissions office by e-mail at: admissions@isu.isunet.edu or online at www.isunet.edu/other programs/short programs intro sp course.htm?aas
