MANAGING director Alyson Hamilton Lacey is on a mission to get other company bosses to look to the clouds for inspiration.

Well actually it’s one cloud in particular and it is called the Manx Cloud

Computer wizard Alyson is at the helm of Itex (Isle of Man) Ltd, a forward thinking IT services provider.

The firm, based in Sydney Mount, Circular Road, Douglas, has recently invested more than £500,000 in its own infrastructure to bring what it says is improved efficiencies and cost-savings for local businesses.

Alyson is the only woman in a 10-strong Itex team in the Isle of Man, which includes her husband James.

MANX CLOUD

The Manx Cloud is all part of the phenomenon known as cloud computing.

In a nutshell cloud computing is all about the provision of resources on demand via a computer network.

And Alyson believes passionately there is a ‘burning need’ for companies to look at using the Manx Cloud for their own benefit.

And her belief seems to be paying dividends as she has regular meetings with companies of all sizes about the benefits of cloud computing.

It seems more and more of them are coming on board as they see the advantages of getting involved.

Alyson, who has a knack of explaining new technology clearly and concisely, said she often meets bosses who know the buzzwords but do not necessarily know how the system can apply to their organisation.

Alyson, who lives in Port St Mary, and has one daughter, Abigail, eight, is originally from Solihull in the West Midlands but has lived in the island for the last 15 years.

Before Itex she was commercial director at Manx Telecom and previously held a number of top positions.

She also has a degree in computer system engineering at Warwick University.

Alyson said: ‘What really excites us about this technology is the speed and flexibility it allows us to design, build and manage optimum IT solutions for the businesses we work with. It dynamically assigns resources to meet the needs of the business in minutes versus weeks or months.

‘This solution allows us to pass on unparalleled efficiencies to clients who are looking to IT solutions to deliver cost advantages to their business. We have invested more than £0.5M in this platform because we are continually committed to ensuring that we offer clients the best enterprise class technology, to help them transform the way they operate.’

She added: ‘This platform will underpin Itex’s portfolio of managed services - which include cloud computing offerings such as MyOffice Online. This is just one solution where Itex can offer significant operational and compliance benefits to small firms while reducing the capital demands of IT.’

Hosted within world-class, secure datacentre facilities in the Isle of Man, MyOffice Online is a private cloud-based service to businesses, which helps drive down IT costs and promote efficiency.

Alyson explained that with MyOffice Online, organisations simply need internet access and are then provided with all of their desktop suite of software applications via the service.

She stressed it works reliably, and works the same way from everywhere, simply and securely from any internet connected PC, and comes with free upgrade rights to the latest version of Microsoft’s Office software.

Itex also has offices in Jersey and Guernsey
