Family friendly bank
AS part of its belief in supporting diversity in its workforce, Barclays Wealth has launched a Families and Parenting Network in the Isle of Man.
Being the largest private sector employer in the Island means that Barclays Wealth has many employees involved with raising children or supporting older family members, or who have other family responsibilities.
The Families and Parenting Network is just one of a number of diversity initiatives linked to the Barclays Wealth business objective of attracting and retaining talented people.
The new network helps to promote family friendly policies and practices, such as flexible working, caring and emergency leave and maternity, paternity and adoption arrangements, which aim to support employees at important and sometimes stressful times in their lives.
Since the launch of the network in May, a number of events have already taken place, including maternity workshops, a seminar on will making, which was kindly delivered by Simcocks Advocates, and one on school holiday activities.
Planned future workshop subjects include first aid for children with St John's Ambulance, nutrition and healthy eating for children, elderly care and parenting for toddlers and teenagers.
Managing director Greg Ellison said: 'As a father of two young children, I understand how challenging it can be to balance your work commitments with the demands of family life. It is essential that we acknowledge and support these family responsibilities and help colleagues find the right balance.
'The Families and Parents initiative provides an informal network through which people with similar concerns can discuss common issues and share solutions. Whilst supportive policies are important, more often than not supportive and flexible management can make a real difference to people. I am looking forward to the special events and seminars we have planned over the coming months to build greater awareness and support for parents and carers, and I know that these initiatives will help us to attract and retain the very best people in the Isle of Man.'
