No place like roam for Manx Telecom customers
SIGNIFICANT MOVE: Mervyn Harvey of Manx Telecom hailed the initiative as a great step forward for customers
IT’S been the subject of many a heated debate in pubs.
Now Manx Telecom is claiming it has listened to its customers’ concerns about roaming charges.
The company says its customers don’t have to worry about roaming charges in the UK, Europe, the USA and many other destinations any more.
The island company has launched a range of what it describes as new roaming bolt-ons that allow Pay Monthly customers to pay the same for calls, texts, and data when off-island as they do when they are at home.
Manx Telecom says that the new initiative is suitable for all kinds of travellers.
A spokesman said: ‘Whether you are travelling on a business trip, having a weekend shopping in London, a romantic break in Paris or a Christmas market in Prague, there are bolt-on packages to suit all needs for customers who just want to make calls home or locally, send texts anywhere in the world or use data while abroad.
‘There is also a bolt-on if customers want to receive calls for free when in Europe, USA and elsewhere (it is already free for all Manx Telecom customers to receive calls in the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands) - they can simply buy the roaming bolt-on that suits their usage before they travel, or while they are away, knowing that they will be charged the standard on-island rate.’
Pay As You Go customers will also benefit by getting up to 20MB of roaming data when in the UK, Ireland or Channel Islands for £3 per day. Manx Telecom says this new promotion will deliver savings of up to 90 per cent on standard data roaming rates as well as being able to receive calls for free when roaming in these countries.
Mobile Product manager Mervyn Harvey said: ‘Our Pay Monthly roaming bolt-ons and Pay As You Go roaming data promotion offer customers great value when they use their mobiles off-island.
‘For as little as £3.99 per month, the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland Talk’n’Text roaming bolt-on will allow customers to make calls home to the IoM for 12p per minute or text anywhere in the world for 10p per text.
‘This will allow customers to control roaming costs, there’s a bolt-on to meet everyone’s needs and there’s no long contract, customers can opt-in and opt-out for a month whenever they wish.
‘It’s also exciting to be able to offer Pay As You Go customers great value on roaming data when in the UK, Ireland or Channel Islands.
‘This offer from Manx Telecom not only allows customers to use data but actually supports our customers’ needs to stay up to date with family and friends using social media and email for a very attractive price of £3 per day for up to 20MB of data.’
Mr Harvey acknowledged that the subject of roaming charges is a great issue in pub debates and that he and his colleagues had been working hard to come up with this new initiative.
He said: ‘This means significant savings and will greatly reduce costs for customers.’ For more information and to buy bolt-ons, go to manxtelecom.com/roaming.
