The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is to sponsor the Best Float category in the Douglas Carnival.
This will see the winner come away with a £500 cash prize, runner-up with £300 and third place with £200.
In addition the Steam Packet’s Ben-my -Chree will sound its horn at 6.30pm on Saturday July 19th to officially launch the carnival.
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s marketing manager Renée Caley said: ‘As a company with strong links to Douglas for more than 180 years and one involved in all aspects of island life we are pleased to be supporting the Douglas Carnival.
‘Floats are central to any carnival and we’re sure the people of the Isle of Man will rise to the challenge and create some truly outstanding examples.’
Town centre manager Michelle O’Malley said: ‘To have this generous sponsorship from the Steam Packet opens up all kinds of fundraising opportunities, with entrants perhaps choosing to donate their prize money, should they be among the lucky winners, to their preferred charity.
‘We are truly delighted that the Steam Packet has come on board the carnival.’
For float entries application forms are required, but not for bikes or individuals in fancy dress or costume.
Additionally there are still a number of sponsorship opportunities available.
