TWO golf enthusiasts who started their own business aimed at bringing more tourists to the island are celebrating after receiving vital publicity in a major publication.
The island and its golf courses are showcased in this month’s edition of Golf Monthly, one of the biggest publications for fans of the game.
Business News first revealed in March how former police officer Ged Power and golfing pal Martin Young set up a new company called Isle of Man Golf Tours.
They came up with the idea while playing a round at Rowany, Port Erin.
Now they are over the moon with the coverage given by the magazine writer.
Martin Young said: ‘The article has come about following a press trip arranged, in conjunction with the Department of Economic Development, by Isle of Man Golf Tours.
‘In May, we had Golf Monthly staff writer Roderick Easdale over for four days. We rolled out the red carpet for him, picking him up from the airport in a chauffeur driven limousine and taking him to the Mount Murray hotel.
‘During his stay, we took him round all nine of the island’s golf courses as well as other attractions such as the TT Trike Tour and various restaurants and pubs around the island.
‘We also took him round the House of Keys and arranged his golf so he got to meet and play with many local people keen to support and promote the Isle of Man as a great golfing destination.
‘Since the article was published (in their biggest edition of the year – the British Open edition) we have had 10 enquiries for last minute trips and society trips for next year.
‘We’ve also accepted a number of bookings already so we are delighted with the exposure the island is getting on the back of this article.’
In the article Roderick Easdale gives the thumbs-up to the island and lists places to stay, eat in, drink in and visit.
He writes: ‘There is a lot to recommend about the Isle of Man as a golfing destination. It has good, uncluttered courses set within glorious scenery, the green fees are modest, the welcome on the island is warm, and fine eateries and pubs abound.’
