Watchmaker Roger Smith has applied to convert barns and outbuildings at Claddagh Farm, Sulby, into a workshop where some of the world’s finest watches will be produced.

In the bid he explains the business is at ‘the full capacity of the house’ and has become the ‘major factor restraining our business growth’.

Extra staff taken on since 2011 and more equipment – Mr Smith inherited the contents of George Daniels’ workshop when he died in 2011 –means more space is needed. He said it had been impossible to find affordable premises of a standard suitable for manufacturing and bringing high net worth clients to.
