Editors’ blog: Today is the day.
The first tabloid Isle of Man Examiner is rolling off the presses as I write.
You probably aren’t as excited about this as I am. Please indulge me.
The change has been the result of lots of work. We had to do lots of market research to demonstrate that the idea was a good one.
We had to persuade the board it was sensible.
The readers had already made their minds up, if the market research is right. They wanted the paper to go change.
So here goes . . .
There are bound to be a few teething problems. But we think the formula is good. I’d love to hear your views.
We’re also asking for views in the paper (see page 22) and online at http://www.jpsurveys.co.uk/examiner_reaction/
Anyway, while the format is very important, the content is too.
I’m sure you’ll agree that the splash (the front page lead) is one of the best we’ve had for a while.
Adrian Darbyshire worked hard on that.
Inside, we’ve followed up what my partner saw online over the weekend. Ellan Vannin Airlines is about to start, we read on the company’s website.
We’d never heard of it. Neither had the good folk at Ronaldsway when we rang them. Hmmmm . . .
We can be a cynical bunch here. And we are a tad sceptical that a company whose main interests seem to be luxury chocolates, nightclubs and call centres wants to set up an airline.
But who knows? The company’s business plan might be top-notch and it might revolutionise air travel from the island.
The company is moving into Euromanx House. I wonder if the bosses know what fate befell Euromanx?
