INMATES at the Isle of Man Prison in Jurby are not allowed to put nude pictures on the walls of their cell, it’s been confirmed.
The Manx Independent asked Home Affairs Minister Adrian Earnshaw MHK about the issue, after Belmarsh Prison in the UK announced it was introducing a ban on saucy pictures.
Mr Earnshaw said the ban had been in place since the new prison opened in 2008, under the governorship of Alison Gomme.
He said nude pictures had previously been allowed at the prison when it was in Victoria Road, Douglas.
Mrs Gomme’s ruling prevents all inmates from putting up pictures of people showing their ‘nipples and pubic regions’.
‘The ruling is that if you want pictures of girls or men on your walls you can, as long as they conform with what is recognised as acceptable public decency,’ said Mr Earnshaw.
